Looking at the open area known as "Whatcom Overlook", which has significance for two main reasons. First, on the north side of the open area is a sloped treed area which, when looked through, offers a spectacular view of Lake Whatcom (hence the name of the open area). Second, the gravel-like mound on the south side of the open area (left side of this photo) possibly begins the shortest and easiest route to the summit of Anderson Mountain. Ascending peakbaggers head uphill south of this open area to reach the densely forested north summit of the mountain.
