Rain and clouds
It rained on me all the way up and back. Clouds covered everything until I started down when I got fleeting glimpses of the surrounding mountains. Lots of fresh bear prints on the road, mother and cub.
The brush has grown on the climb up from the road and is getting a little difficult to push through. There is some poison oak at the top. Long pants would be good. There is only one mile of unpaved road driving up Happy Canyon Road, OK for a sedan but slow.

Snow!
Hiked the road the day after a very cold storm that left snow all the way down to Cachuma Saddle. After leaving the road, I climbed up from the NW through 6 inches of dry, unconsolidated powder to the summit. On the way down, I took the ridge that tops out near where the NW ridge meets the road which made for a very quick descent that cut off at least a mile from the road.

Interesting spot
The hike up is steady and nice. Last bit of the hike is a bit of a scramble, but then you are treated to some great views.

Fun!
I really like the serpentine rock in this mountain range. Cachuma is another great place in my favorite national forest. Crazy deep views of wilderness.
