Amazing what the hot spot that is now under Yellowstone did to this landscape thousands of years ago. The Wilderness Trail is a great one for solitude.
A fine day trip from Island Park area where I live. The spatter cones are interesting, the caves area is actually my favorite area of the monument. A couple of the caves require a light source to explore, all are worth investigating. As bleak as the area seems, there is still a surprising amount of life here.

Finally!
Finally made it to CMNM! Done as several hikes including the north crater rim, Inferno cone, Broken Top and lava tubes.

Unreal landscape
I met some tourists from Pocatello up in Mackay the day after a successful climb of Borah Peak. They told me Craters of the Moon was just a bunch of black rocks laying around in the sun. Sigh. Black rocks... It was an amazing stretch of countryside. It's worth a trip if you are anywhere even remotely near the area.

Pretty sweet
Awesome place to visit. Some of the caves are pretty cool, even though they are pretty small. Now I definitely want to check it out in the winter time.

It's Definitely Different
Who transplanted the lava flows from Hawaii's Big Island to the middle of a high western US desert? We went in several of the caves and although the surface was completely dry, there was water dripping. There was even ice in one of the caves.

strange but great place
Visited this place for a day and did some hikes and caving. Great landscape, like nothing I have seen before and has a special part in my favorite places I have been too for being so unique.
