landmark for cutting back
View down climber's left from the NW Ridge. When the NW Ridge joins up with the W Rib, climber's right of the ridge cliffs out and becomes briefly impassable, forcing you onto climber's left. Stay high, even though it doesn't look like a good idea. When you see a ledge that looks somewhat like a dirt path or use trail descending towards the N Rib (trail visible in this photo on the right-hand side), cut up to the top of the ridge. A few moves on the ridge proper and you can move back to low-angle terrain on climber's right.
