Very long, easy to follow trail

Capitol Reef National Park is a little different. No fees to enter, Utah highway 24 connects right on through. No old lovely lodge from a long time ago, just a brick visitor center from the 80's. Known for flash floods, check for rain in the summer. Cold and dry in the winter. Hickman Bridge is a popular, easy hike from the road. The Fremont river parallels the highway and has a place to park and wade. It was closed due to high runoff making the water extra dangerous.

Getting there:

Hickman Bridge trail forks about 1/3 of the way in. Take the less-used fork past the bridge and on through some washes and edges. Suddenly you will have a view southwest looking down to the ribbonlike highway. The visitor center looks like a little box. Continuing on you can reach Navajo Knobs destination, written about by others.
