from Valle di Lei
this trip is a long-time wish of mine. But we had bad luck with the weather. Snow conditions were good: no snow on the 10km macadam road along the lake with our bikes and then only 200m of carriing ski. But the mountain remained stuck in clouds. Without GPS we turned around at app. 2700m in very deep fog, strong wind and a little snowfall. So I will have to go there again...
Route Climbed: Ascent: normal route, Descent: Ridge to Passo Lei Date Climbed: Sep. 9, 2000
Spent the night in Fraciscio. Early start to Rifugio Chiavenna, where the warden was still asleep: Breakfast cancelled. On to the summit, to enjoy great weather and gorgeous views. Down to passo di Lei (where I met a guy from Milano who was about to climb the summit on a daytrip from Borgonovo: 2700 metres!) and then a looong descent to the postal car in Innerferrera.
