"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

West ButteFollowed the route description for the western slope approach. Very steep hiking the entire way. Fantastic views from the top! Skies were clear and I was surprised to be able to actually pick out some prominent peaks along the eastern portion of Glacier NP.

West ButtePretty steep walk up but not too bad. I suggest that this page should be linked to the Montana County Highpoints.

GorgeousAmazing views of Glacier, the Front, and the island ranges from the top. And the grassy summit itself is great!

Winter ClimbA warm, windy winter day. Didn't need snowshoes until further up on the mountain in the trees. Found two shed mule deer antlers!

West ButteGreat views towards Glacier and in every other direction. The huge network of game trails in the rubble below the summit was quite impressive.

West Butte climbThough not far, this is a very steep climb - took my wife & I over 2 hours to reach the summit. Well worth the climb, however, as the view is endless!
