"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

Coffin PeakClimbed Coffin Peak in late afternoon and descended while the sun was setting. The actual summit is more rugged than the ridge leading to it. It was a very windy day.

West Ridge - from the Parking LotA fun, quick summit after visiting Dante's View (and benchmark.) Fantastic flowers covered the entire summit area. Our timing must have been perfect to get such a treat in Death Valley.

From the parking lotI did this surprisingly nice little peak several years ago. I remember the register had been placed by the 'Subatomic Rock Club' back in 1969. What a treat!
Regarding Bob's comments about the south face's ruggedness, Rick Kent and I once explored a subdrainage on the peak's south side on our way to Styx Canyon. We found a couple of nice rappels that hadn't been done in perhaps 30 years. Atop the first one, we found a gnarly, ancient bolt that we decided not to use; and at the bottom, a second gnarly, ancient bolt lying in the sand.
