NICE to climb an easy one!
After weeks of the harder 14ers, it was SO nice to relax & kick back on easy class 2 Culebra (#45)! We chilled at the summit for over an hour, then saw lightening off in the distance (1st time ever to see this on a 14er summit) and decided to head down. Great day with our group of 11!
14'ers.com trip. Surprised at how beautiful this area was. Climb was quick. Red Mountain is ugly and reminded me of Bross. Now $150 bucks poorer.

Great Day on the "Water Snake"
What a great day to summit Culebra and pickup Red Mountain as well. Thanks to the 14ers.com crew for planning this.

Last hiking day of the season. Made the summit in a little over 2 hours. Cold and windy. Scattered snow but most of it was the consistancy of cement. The Aspens were BEAUTIFUL. Culebra was kind of a pleasent surprise. Better than I was expecting. Went over and bagged Red Mountain too. Only 90 minutes RT!

Foggy day. Wipped out the ole map and compass and had fun navigating.

Even though it was late August, it was a very cold ascent (around freezing) and very foggy with about 50-60 feet of visibility, but at least the descent was sunny. Probably a very easy walk under normal conditions, but this time it was a good test of navigation skills.

CMC Trip
It is nice to see pictures posted on this mountain as we couldn't see anything all day long. Low clouds, fog and rain hampered visibility down to nearly zero. The climb was pleasant even though we couldn't see where we were going. GPS was most helpful! we totally missed seeing the huge Cairn except from down below where you can see it on the ridge.!! Too funny...

With a bunch of fulk from ol' 14erworld. Quite a large and interesting group. A pristine area and saw my first bear in CO!

I coughed up the $150 to do Red Mountain too since I figure the ranch may get closed sometime in the future. Glad that I did not have to wait to get 53 done and get tossed in the old CMC Lottery. The area is really beautiful.

I climbed Culebra Peaks Northwest Ridge via a parking area at 11,700ft. This is an easy climb and I also paid the ranch owners to climb Red Mountain too. I saw several black bears while climbing the peaks and it was an awesome day. (See my trip report for more)

I was the first person that summitted via the Taylor Ranch that season. Interesting part of the state. More like New Mexico than Colorado.

Very quick route, being sure we gained 3,000' was a bit tricky. Unfortunately the 7:10 am start time put some climbers in jeapordy from the storm that rolled on the mountain at about 10:45. We meet the rep at 6am, but were not on trail for a while after.
Alpine Master and I reached the summit in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Even though we saw a bear with cub at about 13,300 feet, I still feel like the climb was bastardized for $100. No one should have to pay a private organization to climb a mountain. Karma will be sweet!
