"Harold" Afanassieff

Jean Afanassieff (Afa) was certainly the mountain guide with whom she did some of her most difficult climbs such as the Branler/Hasse (Tre Cime) or the South face of the Fou. Denise had met Afa at my place when he was just 18 and she was already more than 50. We called them Harold and Maud from the 1971 American movie which had much success in France years before it had in the US.
