Nartreb waiting at the anchor above our first pitch. Notice the use of rock gear to build an anchor - we suffered from a severe shortage of screws.
The ice Nartreb is about to traverse onto was hard and thin, but as you can see in the foreground and background, ice conditions were generally good even if the ice was not as extensive as it would have been later in the season.
