Escaped the Heat  Sucess!

Hiked in a little ways and camped at Shelter Rock Camp, then up to Camp Mystery, set up camp, and hiked up Buckhorn Mountain and back with Sally. Drove back to Portland the next day to the hottest day ever there (116 degrees!). Amazingly, it was fairly cool in the Camp Mystery microclimate.

Marmot Pass/Buckhorn Mountain 2 Day  Sucess!

After getting to Marmot Pass, the climb is pretty strenuous but straight forward. Hardly any scrambling needed.

Via Buckhorn Pass  Sucess!

Camped at 6600' on the ridge north of the summit, then scrambled up both peaks in the morning. Easy class 2 for the first peak, and very loose class 3 for the second peak. Lots of haze to the west from wildfires, but to the south/east we could see all the way to Mount Adams.
Side note: Anybody know why the lower peak has 3 USGS markers on it? Seems like a bit of overkill

Overrun  Sucess!

Climbed as part of a 3-day backpacking trip. Easy trail to the summit, crux was goat management.

Marmot Pass  Sucess!

Beautiful day! Five volcanoes in view. Baker, Glacier, Rainier, Adams, and St. Helens. Garibaldi was probably in view too but I couldn't tell one Canadian summit from another, eh. Dayhiked from Big Quil.

Beautiful even with Rain  Sucess!

Was raining the entire trip, slight drizzle and nothing crazy. Awesome views of the clouds rolling over Marmot Pass.

fun, easy, solo day climb  Sucess!

This is a beautiful area. It's also an extremely easy climb, more of a hike, seeing as though there was trail going from marmot pass all the way to the summit, so dont let the mentioning of class 3 on this page deter you from climbing it. The omcg calls the southwest(highest) summit a class 2, this page says summit is class 3, I call it class 1 with a trail and no exposure. Big Quilcene trailhead to summit: 2hrs 45mins, with many stops for photography, Fun hike :)

Awesome but...  Sucess!

Great summit and beautiful views of the range. However this peak, like many others in the range, falls into the same category that I absolutely detest: long, boring river valley hikes. I'm a a person who loves alpine environments and I certainly got my fill today. But the 5.2 miles from Marmot Pass back to the TH was absolutely monotonous. I can only go "Ooo look a tree" so many times. It all looks the same after a while.

Southwest Summit  Sucess!

Tried for the Northeast last fall but too windy to do safely. On the list for 2012.

September 8th, 2012 - Took a beautiful autumn day to finally visit the northeast peak, then up to the southwest summit for beer and a spectacular sunset!

Buckhorn To Worthington Ridge Traverse  Sucess!

Both Buckhorn summits plus Iron and Worthington. 11.5 hours round-trip. It's pretty gnarly scrambling from Buckhorn to Iron.

Good day  Sucess!

Nice day in the mountains. With the exception of the 3 hours on the scree field. DO NOT take the scree field up, there is a nice trail that goes from Marmot Pass to the top.

Awesome  Sucess!

When I was 12, I scrambled up the side of Buckhorn while my mom was having lunch on the trail below. I got to the saddle before going back. I've always wanted to return and climb the peak for real, and this past weekend I finally got to the top. Great hike with amazing views.

Buckhorn via Marmot Pass  Sucess!

After last year getting to Marmot Pass and not feeling good to continue I finished the job this time. Great hike, great summit.

Nice, easy mountain  Sucess!

Great day out, we saw a goat up real close and a bear from afar. the views were great. Careful if going anywhere near the saddle because we got held up in some class four downclimbing from the summit. The route up to marmot pass and to the summit from there was a pleasure, very fun & scenic.
