34 sixth-graders, 1 teacher, and 8 chaperones from John Morse Waldorf Methods School in Sacramento, climbed to the top on a gorgeous day. Many explored the inner crater as well. What a stunning view.
i first climbed it when I was five, my dad carried me some on his shoulders. We descended the back trail through the lava beds.
I climbed it again when i was six. this time, my dad didn't carry me. we also visited the crater, which was just like climbing the mountain again when coming out. descended back side again.

Trail, Good View From Top
Hiked up trail with family. Excellent view of painted dunes and Mt Lassen. Cool wild flowers.
The views are great and this is pretty easily climbed. Did this and Prospect Peak (has no one put up a page for that?) in one half-day.

First Camping Trip
I did this when I was about 8 on the first family camping trip in the custom VW camper my dad still has almost 25 years later. I remeber my first experience of pain from hiking being the soreness in my calves the next day after the struggle up the loose cinders. From what I read from the others postings, I'll be sure to revisit.
Hiked up this during one of my early tours de Lassen, with Rachel, whilst doing a Snag Lake-Butte Lake loop. Amazing area- with the overcast skies & ominous weather, I felt like I was in prehistoric times like portrayed on TV, with volcanoes blowing up everywhere, & dinosaurs stomping around between them under black skies.

CC Trail
Backpacked in from Summit Lake North campground. About 15 miles in sandals. Very slow and painful process going up to the cone from loose volcanic gravel. Nice to walk down into the cone. Great view of Lassen.

My favorite view in LassenThis is probably my favorite view in Lassen. You get the Mountain, plus the lakes and all the cool lava flows. Great all around.
