"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

Steep and great viewsThe ascent ridge that everyone seems to use wasn't immediately obvious to me, either on a map or in person. I went further up the canyon, passing some mining equipment, before finally deciding to head up the slope. I would not advise this, as it was steeper than the normal route, and just barely on the right side of "climbable". The views from the top are unique and beautiful. I took the standard way down and it was easy scree surfing most of the way. GPS trace

good half-day hike close to VegasI hiked this one with Brian Anderson on a cool & breezy but very sunny and clear day. Outstanding views!

SE ridgeClimbed w/ Whitney Lyman - plenty of loose scree on the way up, but enjoyable climb with one of the better summit views in the region. Chose a more easterly decent and would not recommend this route.

Route Climbed: SE ridge Date Climbed: March 6, 2004This peak is geologically unique -- it's made of rhyolite, in a chain of limestone peaks. The Native Americans used obsidian from nearby to make arrowheads. There is still a "pearlite" mine near the base, where one can see hydrated obsidian blown into the neighboring limestone.

Route Climbed: SE Ridge Date Climbed: November 27, 2005Despite all the loose stuff on the way up, I really enjoyed this obscure little peak. The views along the ridge and from the summit were phenomenal.
