Tarantulas down in the Valleys
Summited "Disco" with my hiking buddy, Cody. Aggressive Gal at Ranger Shack warned us about staying off private property. Didn't see anyone during the entire hike. Long walk with some rollers but overall - a great hike. Tarantula country down in the valleys. Lost our light at the Summit and worked our way back by headlamp. Had an awesome deli sandwich at the top. Enjoy!
Tagged it today as a side trip from a loop to Murietta Falls. Rather uninteresting, but county high point, so yay? Rose is a much more enjoyable summit.

From Del Valle
Enjoyable hike - be warned that there is no water on the trail, despite the indication on the maps that there is water - there are signs that state the water must be purified or boiled.

Foggy, rainy amble to Alameda Highpoint
Rather than using the normal Williams Gulch & Big Burn route we circumvented the gulch by taking private property & land bank fire roads that continue upwards from Rocky Ridge & loop around connecting to the Ohlone trail near Jackson Grade & Schafer flat. Easier route with less challening elevation gain (if your not in the mood for it). Roads shown on relevant USGS map pretty much accurate. Nice views across Arroyo Valle towards Cedar Mountain. Foggy, rainy fun with bonus time with friendly group of horses.

Long nice dayhike
Lots of fall color. Nice workout. Ran to the point 3841 to the southeast just to be sure.

Cake Walk
I've visited this unassuming HP twice. The first time with 15 people in tow, the second time (May 2009) with 18. So, needless to say, it's not Everest, but it is a great hike, made more interesting by the fact that it is a little off the established Ohlone Trail route. A visit to Murietta Falls on the way back (and Rocky Ridge farther down) means it does not have to be a strict out-and-back hike.
Not much in the way of views since the entire hike was in the clouds. The countryside was nice and green with some good wildflowers. I didn't expect to be bluff charged by a bull, but oh well. I swear the poison oak was reaching out to get me from both side of the trail heading down to Williams Gulch. Vile weed! All in all a very nice hike.

From Del Valle
Normally I wouldn't have attempted this hike so late in the season with the hot temps usually taking hold by now. This year, however, the first week of June and we're having high temps in the 70's. I couldn't resist.
Long, dry hike. Lots of Oaks, Digger Pines, and on the single track a lot of poison oak. Also went over to Rose Peak before heading back to my truck. Only a handful of other hikers out.

Snow!
Climbed to the top of Alameda County from Del Valle with Ben. Chilly on top, with some pretty deep snow patches (about 4 inches). Great wilderness, very remote. Nice hike.
