South Cabezas!  Sucess!

Hiked with Eric Kassan, Paul McClellan and Michael Berry. Eric was able to get permission from the landowner to cross his land but we were not allowed to drive up so we had to hike the entire road from the very bottom making for a long day. The scramble was fun and the rock very solid. The brush was not so bad on our descent when we found a better route. Overall a fantastic peak but not an easy one. I was very glad Eric got the permission and want to thank him for his efforts. Great team and fun hike!

Start of Arizona trip  Sucess!

Together with 6 others, we reached the summit of this one. Thanks to Mark N. and Rick H. for making this happen. Many of the group went on to get the difficult and nasty Pinnacle Ridge the next day.

South Cabeza  Sucess!

With a team of 7, we were able to get landowner permission to get past two gates and drive to a saddle at 7,220 feet directly below the radio tower. We all manged the brush and the rocks fine and summitted. A few of the team went to the north summit, while I and the rest descended the way we came.

The landowner situation seems to have deteriorated in recent years and I do not know of a fully-legal way up this peak without trespassing. Our team leader, Mark N., was able to finagle the permission and to him, we are indebted.

I was unsuccessful back in 2008 on a hike with the SAHC. Strong winds prevented us from ascending the exposed rock sections.

Dos Cabezas  Sucess!

Took the SE ridge from the Mascot Mine Road. More cross-country travel than the route described, but also gains the radio tower. We traversed through icy fog to the main gully between the peaks. A small, awkward chockstone is the main obstacle. From the saddle between them, a fun steep climb to the South Cabeza, and the clouds cleared. Scrambled back down, then went up the North Cabeza. Very solid rock - if you take your time, the routes become obvious. Clearly not well-travelled peaks.

At last  Sucess!

Finally got around to climbing this peak after many years
of admiring it from I10. Climbed both peaks, south
is a bit higher. I could not find a direct
route from south peak to north peak via the notch, so
climbed to base of south and then went around the east side.

Fun climb! There are definitely a few lines on the peaks that are worth checking out, and the rock's surprisingly good. Get an early start, though, as the approach road may be blocked by a gate (it was when I was there)....
