Worst... Named... Mountain... Ever
Standard route from Phelps Basin.
I actually avoided this one for years because of the unattractive name.
“So what did you do last weekend?... I climbed Dumbbell. What, you’re a dumbbell?” And imagine the jokes if someone got injured and had to be rescued off that mountain: “What a dumbbell”. Can we start a movement to change it to something better? I propose Ledge Mountain, as this really is the dominating feature of the peak, both for the standard SW routes – a climber can utilize long continuous ledges to lower the grade – and the amazing super-long continuous ledge that snakes around the east face to go to Greenwood. Or anything else if someone has another idea.
Great day. Climbed up the the ridgeline on the west side for view of Lyman glacier, then climbed a couple of Dumbells other peaks before climbing the main one. Made a great challenge.
Careful if following the rock stacks down. I ended up losing that trail and ended up at the edge of a cliff. Best to just follow the creek down the slope.

With Greenwood
Climbed Greenwood first then Dumbell on the way back. Snow made it more fun

Climbed with Carl
Perfect weather. Only a short (20') snow finger to cross to gain the short and positive class 3 rock band. Climbed the 4th class section to the right going up then the easier 4th class gully coming down. Not nearly as loose in the gully as advertised and ubundant positive holds.
