Been twice. Lots of fun scrambling on the rocks. Always lots of people on the main "summit", but the other peaks are normally empty.

Nice Morning
Glad I finally came to check this place out since I've moved to Texas. Went to all of the "high points" in the park. I enjoyed Turkey Peak and Buzzards Roost most. Too many people though. Guess I should expect that on a Holiday weekend.

Summitted Thrice - Good Practice in TX
This was more of a practice hike for the upcoming Whitney climb on Memorial day. Will write a trip report on this one shortly, as I climbed from a different and a slightly more inclined side.

Breathe and Release
Enchanted Rock: point of curiosity or much-needed stress relief? Both.
Living in Houston for the last few months after a lifetime in the Northwest has taught me a lot about Texas. Not the least of which is how flat it is. After climbing mountains in the Cascades which are relatively ho-hum but nonetheless higher than anything Texas can even hope to parallel, I often find myself longing for something...ANYthing with elevation here. The ten minutes I spent ambling up Enchanted Rock did the trick, and was just enough to get that twinge in your lungs that you can never get on anything flat.
So, thanks, I guess. It was also a great way to unwind and get right before an interview for medical school. Being back in San Antonio for margaritas a couple hours later didn't hurt either...

one very hot spring day...
The summit trail is a great cardio workout if you do it quickly( I did it this time in 10 1/2 minutes!). watch out if it is sunny becuase it will get hot fast. Also, the crowds are very heavy most weekends.
Route Climbed: Summit trail, back on Echo Canyon trail Date Climbed: October 5, 2005
Went on a Weds. morning and had the place to myself. I can see where it might get hot in the summer, but very pleasant in early October. This is an easy climb with 450' of elevation gain. Take the family. We took the summit trail straight up and after a little poking around found the USGS "summit" marker on the rather broad. flat top. On the way down, we worked our way over to the small saddle between E-Rock and Little Rock and poked our way through the boulder field to the southwest of the saddle. The whole trip took about an hour.

I have climbed here numerous times, but this is the most recent trip I made to the Rock. Bring water during the warm months, which are 11 out of twelve, and watch for snakes if you are off of the beaten path in your climbing adventures. My personal favorite area is the Sci-Fi area on the front of Little Dome.

This is the earliest date I can actually remember summitting the main dome. Nice place, although a few demons still linger from a leg injury that would occur ten years later.
