Fall Hike in the Clouds
Intended to keep going on to Knobtop and Gabletop, but thick clouds, 30mph winds, 30degree temps and the fear of snow/rain turned me back at Flattop. Oh well, it's nice to be out.

Traverse to ChiefsHead
The first of 7 on the way to Chiefs Head. A nice loop hike, though can't say much for this "peak" if you can call it that.

Standard Trail
Hoping to do this with Hallet. Started in rain from Bear Lake, which stopped, but clouds were ominous. Reports from a couple groups descending said it was high winds and nasty on top. Bailed at 12,ooo'. I should have waited for a while, it all blew over by the time I was back in my vehicle at Bear Lake.
Edit: Had better luck on Aug. 11, 2007. Great weather, lots of people, combined this with a visit to Hallett Peak.

Dragon's Tail
fun climb all the way. we added a second rock band by going left at the first big rock; up steeper snow to a short (but tricky) rock section. prob. solid m2 if not m2+

From Bear Lake Trailhead
Total ascents = 10. A gentle, friendly mountain with a great summit view.
We skinned most of the way up, but had to take the skis off in spots. While the Dragon's Tail is calling, we opted for a tammer first outing on wild snow w/ new gear. We found perfect weather that day, and perfect snow on the north side.
We (rkymtn) had an enjoyable outing on what was a beautiful climb in all aspects. The snow allowed for easy step kicking. The surrounding views are great.
Haliku and I enjoyed the ascent of the Dragon's Tail Couloir before heading to the summit and on to Hallett Peak. Snow conditions were great for kicking steps and the weather was equally nice. Overall, the climb was easy with a minor rock crux towards the top of the left couloir branch.
Should have gone for the two 'fer, with Hallets. Went around Hallet's and came down Tyndall ( I think??? ) glacier. Returned back to Bear Lake trailhead via the Loch. Long day. Would love to get back and do it again.

Dragon's Tail
Climbed Dragon's Tail with a ski descent. Didn't actually stand on the true summit, but it's an easy hike from the top of the couloir, so I'll consider it bagged for now. I'm sure I'll cross the true summit some time soon. Trip report is on the Flattop page.

Cold and Windy
I climbed this with my summit post friend "asphazell" on a windy day in April. We wore snowshoes up Flattop as well as Hallett Peak that day, gotta, love the Rockies :)
