Windy Day
Got there at 630am, had to wait for the gate to open at 7am. Very windy all day. Views were great. Forecast said rain/snow showers but it was a bluebird day, just windy. The trail to bypass the scrambling looked covered in snow and not very good option, so we climbed across the ridge. Made it interesting. Car to car in 4hr 15min. Nice hike.

Antelope in the Fall
It was a nice peaceful afternoon. The weather was perfect for this hike. It had some very interesting surroundings and the trail was well maintained. My favorite part of the hike was the last .5 miles of the trip to the top. I really enjoyed the rock scramble to the end.

Memorial Day
Our family has had a tradition of hiking every memorial day. Not that we aren't patriotic, but I always thought memorial day meant, the kick off to hiking season. This year I decided to do frary on antelope island. It was the perfect kick off to the hiking season. Much love to the men and women who serve and protect our freedom to enjoy these mountains.

Frary Peak
Good hike for fit families. Difficulty level increases near the top. Just enough to make it worth the effort. Take binoculars.
Took the main trail. Lost the trail near the top in the snow. Nothing a little scrambling couldn't fix. Beautiful view and had a visit from a bighorn sheep near the summit.

Nice Views
This is a unique mountain, with good views of the Wasatch and several West desert mountain ranges.
Twice. Normal route. Views to the west are unlike any others in Utah.
Bison on trail may cause you to reroute. Gnats were crazy.

Finally Made it
Update: Finally made it all the way!!!
Previous Attempt 17 Jan 10
Launched an ill-advised attempt in mid-winter. Lots of snow on ground. Only gave myself 2 hours of good daylight, snow storm imminent, poorly understood directions to top. Lost my nerve scrambling up the side of the summit, stopped 100 feet short. Felt my way down in the dark and was greeted by a realllly large bison standing next to my car...best hike of the month!

Climbed with my son
Did this as a family hike. Backpacked my son up to the area where the old communication antenna is. My wife and son stayed there while I scrambled to the top. Nice views of the Salt Lake

Frary Peak
Nice climb today, no bugs, no heat, and lots of buffalo around. View is great from the top. Trail was a bit muddy in places, but pretty cleared from snow for the most part. FUN DAY

Frary Peak Winter Ascent
Climbed Frary today with my wife, son, daughter and father. We had hoped to get out of the deep snow along the Wasatch and hoped this would be a good little training climb. About 1/2 way up the trail we started getting into a little snow as it snowed yesterday. My father was tired and turned back with my daughter for the car. My wife and son pressed on. The snow got about mid-calf deep about halfway up the hill to the false summit. By time we topped out the false summit we were tired from breaking trail, but decided to press on. The traverse below the summit ridge below Frary Peak from the false summit was a horrible suck fest. We lost any sign of the trail and post holed our way over to Frary's Summit Ridge. It got sketchy in a few spots and I felt like a jerk for dragging my wife and 12 year old son in to this mess. They climbed on undeterred though and we summited at 1:44pm , a little under an hour from the time we left the false summit. The traverse in deep snow sucked on the way back too, but once we reached the false summit it was smooth, although muddy sailing. The wind was relentless all day and it got very cold a few times. All and all it was a great day but be warned that west side of the peak is tough in deep snow. Great day!
GO UTES!!!

hiked this with some friends in the morn. we decided to scramble over the ridge to the summit instead of taking the standard trail. the snow made this part a little sketchy, but it was loads of fun, and the views were spectacular.

Bug-fest 2009
This has to be one of the most scenic hikes in the state and it is remarkable that this kind of environment is so close to the Wasatch front and hardly gets any notice. It definitely doesn’t feel like anything else I have been on in the area and the views and scenery were incredible. I did this hike with Kristina and we took our time taking photos, watching buffalo, smelling the flowers and takin’ in the views. Incredible vistas on top and I think one of the best views anywhere. I’ll be back again and again.
