Great country
One of my first experiences reading Cedric Jones' book general description. I should have bought a map. Lots of poorly chosen off-trail wore me out coming back down.

NW Ramp, Garfield-West Lima loop
Beautiful and quiet day on these peaks. Saw lots of elk, both bull and cow. The ramp was lush and green.
did the three peak loop. Other than a bunch of cattle near the trailhead, it was quite nice. These are big broad peaks reminiscent of the Sawatch or Front Range in Colorado. Quite a bit of tundra up high compared to my usual haunts in Idaho. The rock is fairly stable. Overall, a pleasant alpine stroll.

Lima Peaks and Garfield Mountain circuit
Well, guess I did it backwards; I started early in the morning up the main Lima Peak, over Peak 10,480+ which also qualifies as a minor peak, then on to Garfield. Then back via descending to Little Sheep Creek and back up to my truck at the Little Sheep Creek/ Birch Creek divide. A great day in the mountains!

Middle Fork of Little Sheep Creek
Climbed it from the south and southwest via the middle fork of Little Sheep Creek and camped in the drainage. The open country in this area is beautiful.

North side from Little Sheep Creek
Stopped in for a climb to kick off a road trip down to California. Pretty easy for such a big mountain, but definitely worth the short amount of time because of the fun route and excellent views! Spooked some elk on the way up and met a very nice rancher -George- back down at the trailhead who shared some local info and stories with me. He told me he climbed Garfield once- way back in August of 1953! Also, there is a rocky area where you first gain the ridge that is chock full of fossilized shells!

NW slopes from E Fk. Little Sheep Ck.
Beautiful area - expected much more snow than we got - this must be one of the dryest areas in SW MT.

NW Ramp
Admittedly, the high open countryside is my favorite type of terrain. This offered up plenty of that, making me a happy boy. Jan's Cafe is leading the pack for best cheeseburger of the season.
