First state highpoint!  Sucess!

This is my first state highpoint. What a beautiful day it was...clear skies, little wind, around 70 degrees at the trailhead, and 50's at the summit. A little hazy though, could barely see Sierra Blanca. I also forgot the sunscreen, so I got nice and toasted. Did the hike with my girlfriend, 7 hr. roundtrip.

GP trail  Sucess!

Too snowy to easily climb El Capitan. When I reached the summit I saw some guy trying to steal the top off the monument

Beautiful day up the Guadalupe Peak Trail  Sucess!

Climbed this peak during my cross-country road trip from Boston to San Francisco in November 2006. It was a fantastic day, and the summit was quite crowded (20+ people during my time up there). Will definitely revisit the Guadalupe Mts next time I'm passing through.

Snow Storm  Sucess!

Matt and I got to the ranger station at 1:00 just after it had started to snow. The rangers pleaded with us not to go up in such "treacherous" conditions. They can be so cute sometimes. The hike was awesome. Poor visibility, but the trail was easy to follow even with the blanket of snow. Hiking in the desert snow is truly a delight. We got back to the car at 5:00. The rangers had left early.

scouting vertical rock routes

Took jeep over old Butterfield Stagecoach trail, hiked bone canyon to base of wall connecting Cap and Guadalupe to photograph possible technical rock routes. Hope to return next spring for successful western face summit.

Climbed up the main trail and crossed over to El Capitan. Made for a long but fun day. Extremly windy (that was part of the fun).

Perfect day  Sucess!

One of the best days ever. Went down to Carlsbad Caverns and did some hiking in the caves. Afterwards, hiked up Guadalupe peak and enjoyed the view.

I stand at the highpoint of my birth state (which I haven't visited since birth), reveling at the beauty surrounding me. It's great to be alive!

Texas Highpoint  Sucess!

Awesome and rugged country! It is hard to believe that it exists in Texas. We arrived late in the evening and had plans to camp in the backcountry, but large dark clouds kept us in the campground. It rained most of the night. The next morning we headed out early and were the first that day to be on top of Texas. Not too windy with clear skies.Fantastic views! It was a fun hike with some mild exposure in areas.

Mysterious feline  Sucess!

Reached summit not long before sunset with four friends. On the dark descent, we were watched for a time by some type of cat just off the trail, which we finally scared off. Most likely a bobcat, though one of my buddies is still convinced it was a mountain lion.

First State Highpoint, First Summit with My Boys  Sucess!

This was the first state highpoint for me and my boys Kale - 13 and Colin - 7. They were real troopers. An incredible view. What a great experience to accomplish this with my sons. The first of many summits for us. We took the standard route, 7 hours round trip. Take plenty of water.

Highpointer climb in 1990  Sucess!

In 1990 the Highpointers Club annual climb was here, with a convention in El Paso. Having read of the legendary Jack Longacre in the Boeing BOEALPS history and joined his mailing list a year or two earlier, I was eager to meet him. My daughter and I participated in the convention and the climb. This was number 37 of my 49 state high points, and number 36 for Vanessa.
