Cables
Did cables before the permit madness. Stupidly went with two triathletes (hey Matt, hey Jessica) that kicked my ass hard. We did the whole hike, round-trip, in under 4 hours.

Via the Cables
Approximate date of second time ascending, on the way back from Merced Lake on a backpacking trip. First time was a day hike back in 1992. A hike that truly captures the essence of Yosemite: superb scenery, ridiculous crowds.

Sierra Gem
This was my first Sierra Nevada summit and it was magnificent.
Every hiker should make this hike at least once.
It's a classic for a reason. Can't wait to go back some day!

Snake Dyke
Really fun climb up. First few pitches felt sandbagged, then easier terrain but more runout . Hiked down via cables.

Great summit
Late April 2013 climbed NW Face of Half Dome with Hamik. IAD c2c. Awesome day out.
Sept 4th 2010 - Snake Dike with Shane. First time leading on a multi pitch climb. Led odds.

Domin it
Climbed it on Day 1 of a JMT thru-hike that included 11 peaks. Got to the cables around 4PM and no one was there. Only 4 people on the summit when I was there. Not bad.

Had summit to ourselves
Third time up, only this time an incoming storm apparently scared the crowds away and me and my brother had the top all to ourselves - great fun! Trip report at http://www.mountainhiker.org/trip_report.aspx?id=105
Went up the Cables as a 12 year old with my dad and two brothers in the summer of 1972.

labor day
Went up labor day weekend. The lines going up the dome were like nothing I'd ever seen. Nearly two hours of waiting just to get up the chain, and an hour to get back down. Ended up going down the mist trail after dark using cell phones and cameras as flashlights. Almost fell off the waterfall and died.
My first really long hike. This happened on the spur of the moment. Didn't even think I was going to do the hike, but met somebody along the way, and we kept on talking, and I just made it to the top. Also, my first peak on the SPS list.

Half Dome Nirvana
This was my 8th hike to the top of Half Dome from Curry Village. The first time was when I was a kid back in September, 1969. The older I get the more I love this hike. It is challenging for sure and it can take up to 8 hours to get to the top. This trip was with a group of AT&T employees and a couple of friends from Placerville. I reached the top quickly in about 3.5 hours, but the slowest in our group took nearly 6 hours. That was fine with me....there are worse places to lounge around than the top of Half Dome!!! Now in 2013, there is a lottery system (since 2009?) for using the cables and climbing the last section. All good things seem to only last so long before they become subject to rules and regulations. So glad I had the chance to do this hike back when and before the lottery!! I have always started this hike at first light in order to be one of the first people up on top and to avoid people and crowds, and it has always worked. After lingering for a few hours on top and heading down, I have experienced the late risers coming up the cables in what seems to be an unending line. No fun....but....what the heck at least these people are making the effort and I applaud them for trying! This hike rates as one of my favorite of all time, and one that everyone should do in their lifetime. A native Californian, I have hiked all over the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I love the Rockies and the western U.S. States, the Alps are stunning, but nothing compares to Yosemite in my opinion. It is and always will be one of the natural wonders on earth. Avoid the very busy summer months in particular July and August (weekends are just stupid). Go in May or early June, or mid September into October for hiking. Winter is a whole different experience and with a blanket of snow even more beautiful. The cables usually come down in late October...so the top for hikers really isn't an option after this. Enjoy!!

Cable/throngs route. Was able to check this one off before they instituted the permit (new-opportunity-for-scammers) system, yay!
