Half-Pipe, Lone Peak.

Half-Pipe, Lone Peak.

This is the half-pipe, framing Lone Peak to the east. The cirque area is below and out of sight. She is a beautiful peak, isn't she? My favourite. After going up the Jacob's Ladder route to the summit of Lone Peak a bunch of times this year, I decided to check out the Cherry Canyon Logging Trail route this time around. Once getting above all the sagebrush and lackluster scenery lower on the trail once reaching about 8,000 feet, the route is really neat. The upper portion of the hike reminded me strongly of the Marion Mountain trail on San Jacinto Peak in SoCal I did in May this year. Lots of large pines and granite everywhere. The GPS read a nice 6,844 vertical foot ascent for this one and 12 miles roundtrip, all said and done. Photo taken 9-20-2012.
