Hawkeye - The Great 48

Hawkeye Point (Iowa) HP #18

We arrived at the highest point in Iowa around 3am.  The spot is located on a private farm and we felt badly driving down the road with our headlights on and tried to be as quite as possible so as not to wake up the farm owners.  The actual highpoint is incredibly charming and the owners do an incredible job making this a cool little spot.  There are poles that have signs pointing to every other state highpoint with their names and distances.  The actual highpoint was artfully tiled as a little "landing" area.  We searched for a donation box so we could contribute a few bucks since this highpoint was so charming and so well taken care of by the farm owners but didn't see anything.  Overall, one of the nicest and coolest "drive up" highpoints you can go to!
