Uncertain about the location of this pictureLast month, I hiked along the portion of the JMT that passes Mount Solomons by Muir Pass, and I think that this photo may not be of Mount Solomons. Instead, I think that it may be the peak at the northern end of the ridge that contains the Black Giant. This peak is directly south of the smaller lake below Helen lake.
This Google map in terrain view helped me think about the location a bit:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=mount+darwin&sll=35.852028,-83.885458&sspn=0.052663,0.106859&g=goddard+mountain&ie=UTF8&ll=37.111496,-118.655562&spn=0.025907,0.06978&t=p&z=15
As you can see, the peak rises up almost directly out of the lake.
Mount Solomons, however, is about 1/2 mile from Helen Lake across a valley with a fairly shallow grade.
