Plattjen hut

Overview

The Plattjen hut is a modern hut, elevated at 2.567 m.
It is in the Valais,the city in the valley is Saas Fee.

From the hut you have a great view to the Mischabel group (Allalinhorn, Alphubel, Täschhorn, Dom, Nadelhorn, Dürrenhorn) and to the Weissmies group (Weissmies, Lagginhorn, Fletschhorn, Jegihorn).

How to get there

You can reach Plattjen hut easily by cable car from Saas Fee.
In the year 1999 a top-modern gondola was built:
49 gondolas for 6 persons transport 1.600 people per hour.

You also can hike to the Plattjen hut from Saas Fee in 2 1/2 - 3 hours.

Another possibility is to descend from Felskinn (3.000 m) or from Brittania hut. From mountain station Felskinn (3.000 m) to Brittania hut you need 45 minutes. From Brittania hut to Plattjen in 1 hour 45 minutes.

To Saas Fee you get by car from
the north:
via Lötschberg and Visp
the south:
via Furka or Simplon and Visp

Saas Fee is free of cars. There is a big parking store at the beginning of the village where you have to leave your car.

By public transport you reach Saas Fee:
by train from Zürich to Brig in 3 hours
from Frankfurt to Brig in 6.15 hours
from Milano to Brig in 1.45 hours

by bus from Brig and Visp (1 time per hour)

Tour proposals

1. Hiking from Plattjen to Brittania hut in 1 hour. (Wonderful hike with a
great view in the valley to Saas Alamgell and up to the Weissmies
group).
2. To mountain station Felskinn (3.000 m) in 3 hours.
3. To storage lake Mattmark.
4. Via ferrata Mittaghorn (difficulty C)
5. down to Saas Fee passing wonderful flower meadows and with a great view
to the Mischabel group in 1 1/2 hours.
