Imperial Sand Dunes, California

Imperial sand dunes sit in southeastern California close to the Mexican border. I had thought of spending a whole day exploring the area, but the dunes are a popular destination for ATV enthusiasts. Hiking among loud, fast-moving ATVs would not be fun and could potentially be dangerous. The area north of Route 78 is off limits to motorized vehicles but there are no big dunes there. This album contains a few pictures taken at Hugh T. Osbourne Lookout on Route 78.
