Climbed via a loop from Avalanche Lake, up Iroquois, Algonquin, then down the main trail to the Loj. There is very much a trail to the summit from the Iroquois/Algonquin saddle, including some steps up the steeper portions. There were a few scrambly sections though, somewhat hazardous as it was raining and slippery at the time.

My 14th
Missed this peak last time I climbed Algonquin about 20 yrs ago! Ascended via the steep Lake Colden trail which was better going up than it would have been going down. Glad we did the loop this direction.

Different Loop Hike
I needed to bag Iroquois, so I decided to make a loop hike out of it. I started from the Loj, up Algonquin to Iroquois. Then down to Lake Colden and up the Mt Colden trail to the summit. Then returned going past Lake Arnold and back to the Loj. Nice loop, challenging! Nice day but very windy. Couple cool little scrambles going up Iroquois.

MacIntyre Range Winter Traverse
Completed the MacIntyre traverse in February of 2014. It was BRUTALLY cold, with temps reaching 40 below with the wind chill... EPIC!!

Completion of Goal!
Completed objective by summiting after Algonquin. The trail was pretty "heinous" as Doug my hiking partner put it because of the wet and sloppy conditions. But it was a great ending to summiting of 3 peaks. Slighty less windy than Algonquin summit but still no visibility and rainy.

This was by far my favorite peak.... I love the solitude, and the grueling trek up to it gave me such an element of drive. The views are remarkable and its absolutely peaceful.

2nd Attempt
I decided to take the Avalanche Pass route because I didn't enjoy the route up Algonquin the first time I climbed up there. Last time I got turned around on my way to Iroquois from Algonquin by a thunderstorm.
I loved the trail when I got past the uphill portion into Avalanche pass! There was a mountain of debris from previous slides and the trail was to me the most gorgeous trail I had seen to that point and I would have to say is only thus far rivaled by the views near the summit of Gothics. After 6 or more miles of hiking in from the Loj (I cannot stop pronouncing it Louge) I reached the base of the climb. It was the most challenging I have encountered in the Adirondacks. I had a hard time. The good thing about it was that it went up all at once so the hard part was over before I realized it and I reached the summit of Boundary. I was wiped out and Iroquois looked very far away....it wasn't. It took about 20 more minutes to get up it. Hiking up Algonquin felt awful...like I said I was wiped. I did get a fantastic reward on top when I encountered a foursome of Ravens chastising one another over some serious matter and occasionally catching the stiff wind coming up the Marcy side of the peak to take a momentary glide. It was stimulating! Bernd Heinrich refers to Ravens as wolf birds in his books the Mind of the Raven and Ravens in Winter. They are magnificent animals that deserve a greater respect than many give. Ravens are a treat on these peaks enjoy them.

2nd summit of the day
Took thirty two minutes from the summit of Algonquin to Iroquois. They have vastly improved the walkways over the mountain bog area.

Summited Iroquois Peak on a sunny & chilly day towards the end of the summer season. We started at the Loj at 8:30AM and went up and over Algonquin Peak, over Boundary Peak, and finally got to the summit of Iroquois around 12:00PM. We backtracked up Algonquin again, summited Wright, and then finally called it a day reaching the car around 6:00PM.
w/ Wright and Algonquin. The muddy, overgrown path from Algonquin was worth the peace and solitude I got on Iroquois. Great three-fer and highly recommended.
