"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

Lots of cocoonsThere were a ton of cocoons and many butterflies hanging out everywhere. Took a direct line east from S 800 E, it was 4.5 miles and 3100 feet one way

Skyline 50 milerDid this as part of the Skyline 50 mile run. After the summit we ran to Willard and hit that and Ben Lomond. Down to the Ogden Divide, up Lewis and back down to Eden. Great course and I enjoyed the peak.

Thanks, Kadee!I hadn't done my homework, and assumed the trail would just magically appear. It did not, but I called Kadee who pointed me in a direction that worked. I ended up parking at the sharp curve in the road just below the top Powder Mountain parking lot, and climbing up a long hill to the west to get to a ridge. After that there was a rough road that must get a little use by Powder Mountain that I could follow up (north) to the Big Kash sign, and from there there was a clear trail.
The views were great. The weather was perfect. My dog was tired. Glad I got it.

Nice hikeDid Cobabe, James, 8900, and 8733. The top of 8733 was surprisingly rugged.

quick hikemy son and I hiked up the road from the ski area. Plenty of people out on the mountain. I was surprised to find a summit register which was a notebook in a ziplock bag- it was completely waterlogged/frozen. However, I did see the signature of one Bob Packard from about 6 weeks ago- now up to something like 968 P2K peaks. A little bit of fresh snow up high.

Quit trying to kill me!1st attempt 5 Feb 11--failure. Rolled up to Powder Mountain in the middle of nifty snow storm. Didn't bother reading the directions on Summitpost, all I caught was "peice of cake". Took two wrong turns and decided to go straight up the side---I mean how hard could it be? Sloughed a half mile straight up through hip deep snow to Big Kass (9004 feet) and discovered there was a ROAD to the top. Unbeknowest to me, it turns out my route was a double black diamond ski slope. Too exhausted to press toward James Peak, Returned to the resort via the road.
2nd attempt; 21 Apr 11. Failure. Got smart this time and brought snow shoes. Absolutely spectacular as I had the resort to myself without another soul. Got to Big Kass via the road (about 3 foot of crusted snow) in good order but chickened out from climbing James Peak because of the Avalance signs.
3rd Attempt, 14 Jul 2012...SUCCESS! Something didn't want me on this summit. Ascended through a freak summer hail storm and 50 Mph winds. Turned a ho-hum climb into high adventure. Still awaiting a pretty day climb....

Fun hike!Still alot of snow on the route and peak. I'd say the summit register is under 3-5 ft of snow still! Thankfully, due to the colder weather we've been having, I didn't have to strap on the snow shoes. But, despite the snow, the local chipmunks were out in full force. They didn't like my dog.

James = MeSince my name is James I had wanted to do this peak for awhile. Its easy, and has some nice views. This is a good one to do when your short on time but want that feeling of accomplishment that comes from summiting (Malans is another good one)

James PeakHiked up James Peak on Memorial Day. The weather looked bad but I decided to try this one before it got even worse. There was still considerable snow on the peak. I did not see the summit register that Dean has in his photo. Everything was covered in snow. It was very cloudy and cold up there.

Perfect dayThe day before, MikerHiker and I were being blasted by wintry weather on top of the Wellsville Mountains Box Elder Peak. Today,
I had calm, perfect sunny weather. Go figure.
This is a nice summit and the views on a perfect day are perfect.
