Had this on the list and took dogs up for a quiet walk. Followed route here and no problems going up. Coming down got separated from dogs and ended up losing them near Scott Gomer. Heard from another group they saw the dogs back up on summit July 5. So I went back up on the 6th leaving the trail a bit earlier (~2.25 mi). This was steeper but faster. Was hoping to retrieve dogs there but no such luck. Looking for them again on July 9, summited via the Abyss Lake/Rosalie trails to the willows (return from this route). There is a nice opening/game trail through the willows if you head up at top of the switchbacks on Rosalie trail. Stay close to the creek side ledge. Of the three ascents, the latter was more a pleasant hike. More so as I finally recovered the dogs after coming down that evening. Weather was great first and third time. Cold with fog and eventually some hail on the second trip up. Also came across the willows too early/high up on that second trip- a real slig. Very quiet peak with solitude and wonderful views of squaretop, Bierstadt, Evans. Never saw anyone else up there on my 3 visits.

Continued north up the creek drainage and then went up the talus slope on the east side. Hardest part was crossing the willows and marshy terrain to get to the east slope.

Via Scott Gomer
Backpacked up Scott Gomer Creek, set up camp below Kataka and climbed to the summit that afternoon. Main objective for the trip was Bierstadt's East Ridge the following day.
Looped Spearhead, Kataka, Logan and PT 10780 from the Threemile trail. Incredibly dry for this time of year, didn't even need gaitors as any snow I came across was usually only boot sole deep, and far between. Chilly and windy, so at least something felt "November Like" about this hike!

Via Threemile Creek
Combo hike of Spearhead and Kataka. Beautiful weather for January. Descended towards the west to a low point between Kataka and Arrowhead. Easy descent back to Threemile Creek from there.
Climbed with the "usual suspects" and had fortunate weather. Great views from the top, but windy. The afternoon monsoon moved in after we got back to the cars.

3 Mile Creek
Strong party in full winter conditions. Hiked with Lee, Laura, Hillary and Dave. We did a variation and hiked up the W. slopes. Negotiating through the snow covered boulders was treacherous. Many deep holes in between boulders were covered with snow. The windy white out conditions towards the top made it diffucult to determine if we were on the true summit when in fact we were on false summits (there's a few). A brief clearing revealed the true summit and we nailed it. The peak would be cake in the summer. It's a whole other animal in the winter. Very awesome day.

East slopes via Threemile
It was a cold one today, but our little team of two ladies lucked out on the weather; it's as if we were surrounded by a cloud doughnut, but sunshine and bluesky above us while the rest of the highcountry was socked in by snow squalls.
