Hiked to Kendall Katwalk and Kendall Peak today. Both first time trips to Katwalk and this section of the PCT. Took the Commonwealth tail up and back. Beyond the initial flat gravel lines trail the trail climbs up roots and rocks for about 500 feet of gain. I found this on the way down to be the steepest section of the trail except for the Kendall Peak summit boot path. The trail is snow free to the Katwalk, except for two small, easily navigable snow patches. The PCT is an absolutely beautiful trail, especially above 5000 feet when it clears the trees and opens to a large talus field. The views are stunning. Guye Snoqualmie and Red are almost touchable. Distant peaks like Snow Mountain, Stuart delight as do Thompson, Alta, and all the others.
The path to the summit of Kendall Peak is similar to the steep section of Bandera. Rocky and loose dirt. It levels out towards the top as you head East to the summit. Spectacular views abound. Lots of wildflowers are blooming. Get out there!

White out
Cloud cover was heavy on the summit approach, which made navigation a challenge. But in the end we reached the summit and clouds finally started to break.

It was my first time on this peak, left after 2, and made to many mistakes in traversing over to Red. But, eventually made it.

north ridge from PCT
Hazy day due to fires in the east. Good scramble on the ridge, glad we didn't go the shorter route up the slope.
Did this one with a couple of friends who I had never hiked with before. They mostly wanted to check out the Kendall Katwalk, but I talked them into hitting the summit too. We all enjoyed it. Beautiful area. The views of Thomson were mouth watering. It's now at the top of my list of peaks to climb! I have a feeling I'll be coming back here on more than one occasion.
Went back a second time in October for a sunrise hike and saw my first Brocken specter and some phenomenal views. Trip report here.

Kendall and Thomson
I realize this is my third time doing Kendall in combination with another peak. The trail runs so close to the summit, it's worth the extra effort to do it again.

Kendall is a great peak just off the PCT. Awesome views of the area and I hadn't realized that I could see the summit from the PCT.

Kendall and Alaska
Bryan and I had another two for one day starting with Kendall Peak and then moving on to nearby Alaska Mountain. I got to enjoy the summit this time since all the flying ants have now frozen to death.

Kendall and Red Solo
It was my first time on these peaks and I didn't do much research so route finding was a bit of a trick. Special thanks to my friend Alexei for his last minute descriptions of the Kendall route and shortcut. I only spent a few seconds on the summit because it was swarming with flying ants and they did not like me being there. It wasn't originally part of my plan but I jogged back down to the junction so I would have time for neighboring Red Mountain.
