For anyone who hasn't walked around on the Columbia Glacier, this route provides a great excuse. There is a cannon-hole that can be climbed right through, under a boulder blocking a ravine near the ridge-top.

South Ridge
Only monkey on the mountain today. Where is everybody?
A full days work with great reward in views.

Standard South Route
This was a fun peak with a very interesting hike back down. We had to stay the night unexpectedly.

Close, yet so far
Though this wasn't the highest nor the longest hike I've done, it was certainly one of the hardest. This was most likely due to my over-estimated sense of what kind of physical condition I was in... along with an under-estimation of how far the peak actually was from the trailhead.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't go in blind and unprepared. I had read quite a few hike reports by others and had studied the topo maps on the net, however, it's one thing to read about it and another to do it...

My friend Kate and i climbed from Virgin Lake. Lots of time and effort in route-finding. Spectacular exposure on the summit ridge. We were the 30th and 31st people to sign the register this year. Great weather.

South RidgeLots of steep traversing. The summit scramble scared me. We climbed to the peak in a whiteout. Thanks for the beta Josh!
