Lassen
A really fun and pretty easy climb with a great view! The view was so good I felt spoiled because it was so short and accessible.

Busy trail but worth it to see those views at the summit.

cool
The hike was fairly easy for being such a big mountain...and brokeoff was more enjoyable as my pal below said. But the views were INCREDIBLE!!

Much easier hike than I thought, great views. Not quite as fun as Brokeoff Mountain the day before.

Rewarding
I have wanted to climb Lassen since I was a kid. It was 70 degrees with a slight breeze in the parking lot and 55 degrees with 30mph winds on top. Fortunately, there is plenty of shelter at the summit - guess I should bring something warmer than shorts and a t-shirt next time.

Great Views!
My son, Curtis, and I hiked the trail from the parking lot to its end, then crossed the small ice field and scrambled the last few feet of talus on the north slope to reach the true summit.
Awesome jog/hike to the top in 48 minutes on my 48th birthday. Only 25 minutes down (even with a stop to talk) yes I flew ;-)...

4th of July HIke
Juan and I did this to finish off a camping trip we decided to cut short by a day due to a heatwave. It was approaching the 100s as we packed up camp at Hat Creek the morning after the hike. Temps were still in the upper 60s at the Lassen Peak trailhead at 10:30 p.m. and did not cool much as we gained elevation. The summit was devoid of the strong winds I have experienced there on other walks up. We did hear a loud boom while hanging out on the summit. Turns out the Shasta County Bomb Squad had detonated a suspicious device a hiker had found near a culvert at Emerald Lake and had closed part of the road near Bumpass Hell from 6:30pm to 1:00am. A very pleasant hike after being fogged out six days earlier. Had we been a bit earlier, we would have been hotter, but would have seen several NorCal fireworks displays. The next day it was in the mid 90s as we drove by the trailhead around 3 p.m. Not much escape from the Central Valley heat for those seeking that.

Memories from 35 years ago
June 29th, 2007
Early morning hike. Very windy. Sunrise from this mountain was beautiful. Brought back 35 year old memories of when my dad took me for a hike up Lassen when I was 10 years old. It was the first mountain I ever climbed.

Lassen Peak was the very first mountain I ever climbed. I was ten years old. My father took me for hike to the summit. I don't remember much except how awesome I felt when we reached the top. Little did I realize........that this was the start of my love for climbing and all that the wilderness has to offer!

Fogged Out
We got the spur of the moment idea to do Lassen under a nearly full moon while camping nearby along Hat Creek. Upon arriving at the trailhead, we were greated by high winds and thick clouds encircling the mountain despite clear conditions at lower elevations. We started up anyway, but turned back due to one member of the group feeling the altitude too much and also due to the lack of views we had come to enjoy. The next morning, all was clear again, but I've done Lassen many times before, so we were off to South Yolla Bolly and then home.

South side, winter
After an unsuccessful attempt where two sets of glasses were ripped from my face by the wind (my first introduction to blind skiing), made it on a nice day. We had the entire mountain to ourselves.

Lassen Peak Trail
Climbed this with my dad, my highest California peak to date. There were so many butterflies everywhere along the trail that I wanted to change the name to Butterfly Mountain. I tried to swat them with a stick I was carrying, but I couldn't manage to hit any of them. We were the only ones at the summit that actually scrambled over to the highpoint. Most folks seem to stop at the overview signs and then leave.

With my son. Left trailhead at 8:05, summit at 9:45, started down at 10:30, back to car at 11:10. A real fun hike/scramble. We took the class 3 option at the summit rocks, but found a even more fun option in a notch just below the summit. Great views all around, the weather couldn't have been better, with just light winds at the summit. My son's first 10K summit.

The main park road was still closed, so I snowshoed in from the southwest gate on Saturday afternoon. I bivied under a full moon on the big flat area at 8,800 feet elevation near the Lassen Peak tourist trail, climbed the peak the next morning (April Fool's Day!) and was back at the southwest gate by 4:00 pm Sunday. Total of about 18 miles and 3,800 feet vertical. Great weekend.
