Re: Get Well Soon Lil' Smokey! On behalf of the bear, THANKS for your kind
words. As of August 3rd, the bear is doing
very well, based upon human compassion.

My best wishesI hope his eyes will shine soon again with the joy of being back home, in the wilderness he belongs to, with his health recovered.

Re: My best wishesGracie, Marco! It takes some TIME to recover
from a traumatic injury, such as one sustained in a fire or sudden lightning strike.
I think this little one is in very good hands.
The bear seems to be recovering nicely;
it's THE HUMANS I worry about!

Re: 10/10Well, it takes a special kind of bonding
between critters and humans. I grew up in a
city, and it took me a long time to realize that these critters were HERE long before I was; or that "K-Mart" down the street was.
I'm sure this cubby is doin' just fine!!

Re: AwwIt's amazing once you "switch off" the
"rattle and hum" of electronics, and
(physically) get yourself out there into the
dynamic world of wildlife - HOW MUCH people
really CARE. Have a great one, klwagar! EH???

Do you have anynew information on this cub?
Most humans would have some mental damage from such a degree of dehydration. And I have to admit that I did not even recognize that it was a bear cub...
and I would like to vote, but have to obey you Larry...

Re: Do you have any...Obey ???
Thanks for your concern for Lil' Smokey ...
Here's the last info I received from a CA newspaper :
"Nearly three months after his ordeal, Lil' Smokey has gained nearly 50 pounds and he no longer needs the bandages and booties on his paws.
More importantly, the pads of his feet -- and all 20 of his claws -- were beginning to grow back. With his paws getting back to normal, caretakers say there's a good chance Smokey will be able to live in the wild again.
"He's just doing great," center volunteer Tom Millham said. "He's obviously getting harder to handle."
So, far as I know, the little guy is out in
the woods (once again) eating snails and berries! : )) ))!

Re: Fantastic!Gracie, Roberto.
It's not my picture. It appeared in the
national media about three years ago.
I'm sure Lil' Smokey appreciates the actions
of mankind in this particular instance.

Re: Thanks for posting this, Larry! Thanks, Eric! I think Lil' Smokey has since
been released back into the wild ..
Little miracles are the BEST kind.
And, LIFE is definitely a BEAR ..
The little bear shortly after being released
(back) into the Wild.
