HIking Looking Glass Rock

For several years I've been wanting to bring the boys to the mountains in North Carolina. I finally carved the time out and packed three days full for them. Saturday we arrived at the trailhead of Looking Glass Rock around noon and we made up a pack for the hike. The hike up is nice and mainly through forest, so the boys were not particularly impressed and Miles was getting tired. However, as we got closer to the summit, on the south/southwest side of the mountain (I think) they scurried off the trail up a rock face and found a very good look out that had a good view of John Rock. They liked that a good bit and it provided a well needed rest for them. We plugged along to reach the summit a while later - which they really enjoyed and soaked in. The round trip hike took about 4 1/2 hours and was time well spent. As we drove on to Erwin, TN both of them grabbed some solid z's.
