Stormy and Green
The hills are green, but the flowers are now gone. Boo. We hiked up from the Homestead TH. Trail was slick in a couple of spots from last nights thunderstorms, but in otherwise good condition. Heard lots of Sage Grouse. Construction continues at the Homestead TH. (I swear they will never be done.)
We left the car and the temperature said 36 degrees, which would have been fine except for the brutal west wind. That must have brought the chill factor down to the teens. But we made it. The next day my grand daughter placed 1st in her division (three way tie) at the Vertical View climbing competition. She is amazing. GO MOMENTUM.
With Lana. Wind chill in the teens. Road the entire way. Up in 2+45. Number 3 of the Grand Slam. At the "TH" there is room for 4 cars side-by-side and others can park along the road leading up to the gate. I find it odd that of the several signs on the gate there is not a single word about Shaw Mountain or Lucky Peak. There is info about the archery range, though, and at the archery parking area there is a small sign indicating which direction to go if you are searching for Shaw Mountain.

Beautiful hike, bring water and jacket
Loved the hike, the weather changed suddenly and we got very cold without jackets! Prepare for anything.
Start from the Fish & Game Office for a nicer ascent
Avoided this one for the longest time since no one ever sounded too enthusiastic about the fun to be had hiking it from the valley floor along the "traditional" route, but the Adelmann Mine route shaves off some elevation and boring road hiking (and has the fun addition of taking a look around the old mine!), plus it means you get views east toward bigger mountains most of the way. Probably my least favorite of the Grand Slams but still a nice spring hike.

First Mountain
Lucky Peak was the first real mountain I climbed at age 11. We started from Highway 21, went over Table Rock and climbed the southwest ridge. On another trip we climbed to the summit and traversed the ridge to Aldape Summit.

Great time of year. Small amount of snow but packed and easy to hike.
Easy to get to the trailhead from Boise, great training hike for elevation/distance! No spectacular scenery really but great training. Good view of Treasure Valley and Bogus Basin from the top

Lucky Peak ascent
Good hike for being so close to Boise. I even saw some lizards near the top and hiked through a forest.
Went up shaw mountain rd. For about 4.5miles parked found a trail that was a pretty steep hike up to the yree line then found myself on a jeep trail all the way to the top. Great day :)

E Trail
Drove 1.3 miles up the Highland Valley Road and walked the rest of the way to the top. Great views of the Boise Valley. Beautiful sunny November day, nice leg stretcher.

Good Training Hike
This peak is very accessible from Boise making it a great training trail for hiking, running and mountain biking. I've hiked it several times from the Council Springs TH. It's mostly dry, so take whatever water you need. Bring a leash for your dog.
