still some snow
I was hoping to make a snowshoe out of this but not enough snow to make snowshoes worthwhile. I drove on a very good road up to 7000ft and then hiked up the northwest ridge. Good views. Plenty of snow in the Jarbidge and Rubies.

On the drive home
Picked this off on the drive home from Wheeler Peak. Stopped at the gate where to road gets pretty bad and walked the last couple miles up.

The road seemed worse
Dennis drove his truck and the road seemed nastier than it had the year before. Nice little walk over to the summit area. Met one bowhunter up on the road near the communications building and after he went by, a large four point buck jumped out and ran down the mountain.

What a road
Thanks to Ray for his great maps/info, we (Ken Jones & I) were able to drive up most of the way but the last 2 1/2 miles should be walked by anyone who doesn't have high clearance and 4WD. That road is very nasty. Views were great and we went on to do nearby Pine Mountain later in the day. We had done McAfee and McCann Creek the day before and had to get gas at a station beyond Mountain City and Owhyee to the north. There isn't much out there so plan accordingly.
