Night Run
CA Co HP #36. Boardman North via South Pocket Half Marathon. 2.5 hours car to car. Lots of traffic on Mines Road this evening, as two cars passed by as I was preparing to shove off from the pullout ~1/4 mile south of the gate (one guy even stopped and asked if I was ok). Had to frantically hop the fence and hide behind a tree on my return as two more cars drove by when I got back from the outing. Otherwise uneventful. New moon, super dark out there! Roads are in good shape and very runable, even in low light conditions with my red-light headlamp in the lowest setting, just watch out for some large erosion holes along the sinuous stretch on miles 3-5. Also a few large downed trees in that section too. Too dark to find any benchmarks/didn't spend time looking for them. Looking at Strava data and Caltopo elevation data, I think Boardman is a few feet taller than Boardman North, but since the SJ county line does not come up to Boardman's summit (the 4 county intersection is a couple dozen feet north of that summit), the SJ County high point is undoubtedly Boardman North's summit.

The four of us dayhiked a 33.7 mile, 9,500 gain loop via Blackbird Valley including Peak 3,200+, Red Mountain, Peak 2660, Hospital BM, Cedar Knob, Peak 3300, Boardman North, Boardman, Mocho North, Mocho, and Peak 3437. Dropping down to Cedar Knob and then coming back up was not worth the effort with the sun parched lower elevations brown and stickery. Maybe that little stretch would be more fun in early spring.

Great Easter
Beautiful night in the heart of the Diablo range with a wonderful companion. After she went to her grandmother's (90th!!) birthday dinner & I to a friend's birthday dinner on the other side of the Bay, we got a leisurely afternight start. Great temperature & clear night. Seeing Central Valley lights from the other side was quite cool. Summited 4.20ish, back at the truck at 6.30. Another one bites the dust.

Again
Came back with a friend so he could snag the San Joaquin County HP. Picked up Mount Mocho on the way out since I'd missed it first time.

Easy walk from South Pocket
Lots of tire tracks on the road all the way to Boardman North, and evidence of recent road grading. No cattle, no people, and no register or cairn at either summit. There's an earthquake monitoring station atop Boardman North which probably is the reason for the traffic.

Hike this one along with Mt. Boardman and Mt. Mocho on a nice, cold rainy day. Loved it.

Sunday hike.
Gorgeous day after rains....a little snow on the ground in places. Snow-frosting to the East on Mt. Eylar. Didn't see anyone. Many scrub jays kept me company.
