Mount Elbert Summit
Beautiful day for a summit. Easy access and non-technical trail. Several other hikers. Nice mountain top views but really enjoyed the Aspen tree forest at the beginning of the hike.

Almost complete solitude
love climbing 14ers in winter - had a nice campfire for the night and only met one other climber on the way up

Tall Tall Mountain
Beautiful, dark morning to solo ascent up the mountain. First up and had the summit to myself for a while this morning. Windy. So awesome seeing all the mountains around. Maybe my legs were toasted from running La Plata the day before, but I didn't find Elbert as easy as other 14'ers. Not hard, but long, steep ascent.

Mt. Elbert
Don’t be fooled by the people who say it is easy. The part in the forest is pretty easy, but then it is just steep and rocky for the rest of the way. I’m a TERRIBLE mountaineer and it took me almost 7 hours round trip. If you suck like me, then I would rate this climb, above tree line mostly class 2 and difficult due to the amount of vertical feet you gain in the last 2 miles and rocky terrain, which requires some scrambling. Also their are 3 false summits, so don’t think you’re too close until you see a 4th summit. I used the normal route on Halfmoon road. I think it was the northeast route.
Left Boulder at 2:20 am. and got going from the North trailhead at 5:00 am. Surprisingly, the lot was not full. Made it up to the peak around 8:30 am. The crowds at the summit were minimal. My friend who was moving from Georgia to California joined us on the hike. Though Elbert is the tallest CO 14er, it definitely is one of the easiest. 14er #18

Winter Eblert Climb
this was a fun time to scale Elbert, full white out conditions, a good amount of wind and seeing others actually turn back.

An accomplishment!
Although I grew up beneath Elbert & Massive, I had never thought of climbing them. My Minnesota husband came up with that idea and so we traveled back to Leadville, did a little bit of high-altitude conditioning and made it to the top. His latest idea is to climb Massive when he turns 70. Oy.

Triple attempt complete
Last of my three summits in three states. This one you just needed to put one foot in front of the other. Stayed in a cool bed and breakfast in Leadville, Colorado Trail House, when the Delaware was sold out. Cool chick at the desk walked me out and down the alley to the house, cheap and dynamite accomos! Next day got a relaxed start after a good night's sleep, 9am, up and down by 1:30. Quite a few people to keep me company and a great summit! But f**k the steep downhill on the way out, yuck!!

A nice day on the Black Cloud Trail when I was in my mid-teens - the route was chosen for its south-facing aspect where there was not any snow.

Up the north side from Emerald Lake on a pretty day. Not the most scenic mountain, but a very enjoyable hike nonetheless.

Beautiful day
Came from the east to hike a mountain and decided on this one. I stayed in Leadville for a day to get acclimated to the altitude (my home elevation is about 300 feet above sea level). It took me all day, but I consider it an accomplishment for a 70 year old.
