Francis Lake
Fun climb. I found the terrain to be much better than I'd heard. Not very loose at all. I followed a gentle dry drainage up to the notch on the ridge and scambled up the stable talus from there. 3:15 up. Excellent views.

Francis Lake Trail
Perfect weather and spectacular views. The talus is usually wobbly which made for a suprisingly exhausting, but highly rewarding climb.

Dayhike from Rock Creek
Miles of talus. Left the summit quickly under threatening skies. Great views of the LL valley region and BCS.

Above Mt Abbott!
Hard to believe that this peak is higher than the nearby Emblem Peak, Mt. Abbott. Great views on a fun warm up hike before climbing some other peaks in the area. The talus and scree wasn't that bad with good route-finding. I have a feeling I'll be visiting this peak again sometime.
Route Climbed: From Rock Creek Lake via Francis Lake
About three hours to summit from RCL at a moderate pace. Nice little hike and great views. Decended a very loose and tedious class 2 chute to near Chicken Head Lake (Maybe the southern most chute between Morgan and LLP). Great View.

Good views
Backpacked to Francis Lake. The climb was easy but longer than I expected. Also not really class 1 as certain guidebooks might suggest. Great views of the area

North ridge route v Francis Lake
Great Climbing Day! I followed Brent Taylor(my climbing partner)from the Rock Creek Lake parking lot via Francis Lake to a summit at 1pm after 6 hours. Descent took 3 hrs.
Three very experienced climbers (out of a party of 4) arrived about half an hour later. We all had good fellowship chatting about climbs, climbers and food cravings after climbs. I welcome any emails from all of them.
Route Climbed: From Francis Lake Date Climbed: October 1999
A long solo slog from Francis Lake over snow-covered talus. Forgot my gaiters....whoops! Noticed the impressive couloir on Feather Peak. One of the best summit views of any mountain I've ever climbed.
Route Climbed: Francis Lake Date Climbed: Jun 27, 2005
Talus sucked. Decided to take the steeper class 2 section up the second "step." Full of loose pecarious rock held in place by giant flakes. Scared I was going to be buried. Skirt around to the class 1 section.
Continued onto Morgan after climbing the NW ridge of Little Lakes Peak. Only one tricky section getting to the saddle between the peaks then blocky cl. 3 the rest of the way. Excellant views from the top.

I agree w/ previous posts that this summit has great views. Whole trip from car to summit, was all on snow ... camped somewhere above Francis Lake, which was buried. Fun glissade down the steeper chutes to the left of the ridge line.

An attempt in Aug ended in fowl weather, lucked out with weather this time. Snow at the top but only inches, much more snow on following day. This hike is a real slog, too many boulders for fun.
Route Climbed: Francis Lake Date Climbed: September 13, 2004
Our group of 10 took the Francis Lake trail that is advertised as 1.75 miles but must be 3 miles based upon the time it took to hike up and back down from this point. At Lake Francis we climbed the ridge line from the front edge of the lake rather than the back end essentially going up the right side of the ridge instead of the left. Based upon the descent down via the back end of the lake we were all happy that we did this. This ridge which is a moraine is strewn with interesting rocks. From the ridge we hiked directly to a low point between the high ridge line on the right and the ridge line leading to the peak. The views were spectacular.
Route Climbed: From Francis lk Date Climbed: August 15 2004
From trailhead at 7.35 ran to francis by 8.40, late start and clouds were moving in quickly. Straight up the drainage and to the ridge, the boulders suck ! at about 10.30 it was looking bad, on the ridge at 11.07 moving fast from adrenaline, 11.30 first crack of thunder and a lightening strike had to retreat for safety a stones throw from the summit.
Route Climbed: North slopes Date Climbed: May 9, 2004
A better "climb" than I was expecting, with excellent views. I found stable talus on a small rib on the north slopes, making for a quick ascent route; on my descent, I found very loose, unstable boulders on the talus slopes to its west. I would recommend sticking with the rib.
Route Climbed: North slope Date Climbed: May 19, 2000
The north facing snow chutes leading up the north slope provide for excellent spring snow climbing (30-35 degrees). Day hiked via this route from Rock Creek Lake. returned in time to catch a couple of trout for dinner - a perfect day in the Sierra
Route Climbed: Lake Francis Trail Date Climbed: June 20, 2003
Great view but a very tedious slog. Camped at Rock Creek Lake campground and hiked up via Lake Francis. Figured that descending the E slope into Little Lakes Valley would be quicker than the trail, that turned out to be a big mistake. The talus is very loose and going was very slow.
