Whitney-Keeler-Muir on the Main Trail
Almost feels like cheating doing it from the main trail, but the good class 3 (3+?) scramble takes away the guilt. Second 14-er of the day (3rd if you count Keeler Needle). Dimitri and I skipped Crooks because its too much like Keeler and I needed something else to look forward to on my next trip. Awesome views of "The 99" and Trail Camp.

MR MT loop
Day hiked the MR with 2 friends. Their first time up Whitney. My 4x made all the better with friends. Very busy in the chute lots of people knocking rocks loose. Took the main trail back and tagged Mt Muir on the way.

from WT
At the end of a long Carillon-Russel-Whitney dayhike, I decided to head up the short use trail north of the Whitney Trail to the fun class 3 scrambling of Mt Muir. It was very worth it.
Very short diversion. I see a maximum prominence of about 280' above ridgeline. I take it that there isn't a 300' prominence rule for CA 14er's, or perhaps this was a just exception to the rule for a good cause?

This is an aweful route. Secor describes it as "a splendid climb." He probably never climbed it. All that we found was choss, loose rock, plants growing in climbing cracks, and talus sliding on top of sand for the class 3 sections. Tried to climb the Misha variation but ended up climbing a differnt hand crack (5.7) to the left. I would not recommend this route to anyone. Climbed with emppeng27 (cool kid)

Day trip with Whitney
Day tripped this along with Whitney in a little under 12hrs car to car. The summit block seemed more challenging than the class 3 I expected After a few tries found a workable line to the top.

Fun Side Trip
It's a fun side trip with a little pucker power. If you've got a extra hour on your Whitney assent you should do it. 2005 was a great snow year.

Whitney Trail
Climbed Muir on the way back down from Whitney. I met awagher on the way up and he and his friends helped coach me up the last move to the summit. I doubt I would have summited had they not been there. I guess I'm just a pansy sometimes.
Nice dayhike. Something like 51/2 hrs from the portal. 8hrs round trip.

Failed attempt :(
I tried to summit Muir and the way back from Whitney, first I summited the wrong peak, then I figured out which one I needed to climb but could not find the class 3 route, started what I figure was a class 4 route and retreated. I was tired and did not feel good about it, next time,

Whitney Trail
Passed it on my 1st trip to Whitney, so went back when I decided to start climbing more 14ers. Fun scramble from the trail. Only a small amount of 3rd class from what I remember.
