Climbed the west ridge of Ouray in combo with Chipeta and PT 13472A. Longer route than expected, PT 13472 is farther from Marshall Pass than I thought. Also lots of vertical involved between bumps on the ridges and the saddle between the peaks is only 12,300'.

East ridge
Super-windy on the ridge, but still a nice hike, with a great view of the rest of the Sawatch to the north.

East Ridge
Hiked E Ridge direct variation starting from FR 200 at 9,900'. Bushwhacked to the tree line through 1-3 ft of snow. Windy on the upper ridge and the summit. Watched the sunset on the way back. Nice hike, beautiful views.
Went up the east ridge and down the northeast ridge. Beautiful hike on a beautiful day! The aspen were past peak down below, but from above treeline, there was still something to see. There were a few tiny patches of snow - mostly on the northern aspects of the ridges - but nothing to worry much about. The only people I saw all day were a father and young son bow hunting in the trees.

Ouray from E Ridge
Took my 5 year old on her first peak bagging. She did great all the way up, got a little tired on way back. Overall a great hike, and nice views of the Armchair and nice bristlecone pine. We had the peak to ourselves.

West Ridge
I've had family in town a good part of the week, so it was nice to make an escape to the mountains to be by myself for a few others. I was shocked to meet only one other person on this mountain all day! I didn't expect Grays & Torrey's hordes, but - my gosh, a brilliant day (albeit frigid in the morning), a high Thirteener - amazing that so few make their way here. (No complaining, mind you...)

I stumbled off and on someone's trail in the trees and up the ridge.

starting the '10's off right
1/2/10- got a surprise with the road plowed to the grays creek TH, saving me a day and 10 miles of snowshoeing!
the flip side of that was saturday was now my summit day and i endured -5 deg temps in a heavy wind and snowstorm. the rime ice on the northeast ridge was beautiful and spooky simultaneously. finished the day postholing through bottomless snow in the dark for 2.5 hours; what an adventure!
7/2/16- a rainy fourth weekend saw michelle, steve and i abandoning snowmass plans for a weekend of easier climbing, starting with ouray's west ridge. washing machine terrain below treeline made for a wet climb where the sun never quite broke loose. overall enjoyable day, let's go find some sun!

Wife, dog and I via the east ridge. Devil Armchair is beautiful. Unfortunately we couldn't see from the top as the last 800' or so was socked in.

A great climb. I enjoyed the Marshall Pass Road. Me and my friend Jeff spotted Beaver and Deer but saw no other climbers..not much of a trail up this peak. Sunday we went to the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, good times!

Devil's Armchair
5/14/06 - My first attempt was a month earlier and I turned back near treeline when the wind picked me up and slammed me against the talus! 2nd try was successful. Up NE Ridge, down E Ridge. Nasty snow conditions in the trees.
1/6/18 - Solo winter ascent in extremely dry conditions from Grays Creek TH. Up and down the E Ridge. A lenticular cloud was stuck to the summit and it was horribly windy inside it!

West Ridge
I climbed Ouray via the west ridge from Marshall Pass.
Up the NE Ridge, down the East Ridge. This is the way to go on this one, the bristlecone forest at the base of the armchair is beautiful.
Not much snow in this part of the state from the previous days storm, seemed to bypass the southern Sawatch. Clear day, but chilly and windy. Could see Pikes, Uncompahgre, Castle, Evans and Blanca, this peak has some of the longest view corridors I have ever seen!

Beautiful day but the short distance is deceiving. This hike still took quite a while due to the up and down on the ridge and the endless talus. I was relieved when we finally reached the summit. My group only saw one other person the entire day.
