Nice hike on a cool and breezy day with some rain clouds over Matzatzal Peak. We left the trail too early (there was a cairn!) and followed the east ridge to the summit which had some brush. On our descent we followed the well cairned route down the north ridge to the trail. Hiked with surgent.

Straight-forward hikeFrom the use trail from the big cairn it was about 2.6 miles to the summit. Pretty easy to follow. Added Mount Catherine.
