The peak was named for Josiah Merritt, who settled near the mountain slope in 1862, and whose affectionate nickname was Uncle Si. The name appears as Si Mountain on some maps.
I didn't know there was no camping on Mt. Si A friend and I camped out up there (in the snow) on a february night back in 1973. Great view of city lights and planes flying in and out of Sea-Tac. Maybe the no camping wasn't a problem back then as there was one other party camped out near where we were. BTW, this page has had over 2000 hits and only one person took the time to vote, amazing.
What updates does it need? I am back as an active user now and have let all of my other peaks become adopted, but feel no need for this one to be altered

Untitled CommentNice page.
I always thought that "Si" was a funny name, and I thought it was an abbreviation for something longer until I looked on the topozone map.
Anyone know the etymology behind what may be the only two-lettered mountain name in the US?
