Have driven past this spot for 10 years going to and from Forks for steelhead fishing in the thick of the rainy season since living in Bellingham. Used the excuse of a buddy visiting from the East Coast to finally check it off. I would describe this climb as type 2 fun to a brand new climber - scary while doing it, but all reward and totally worth it after. As a more seasoned climber, this was a blast! Unrelentingly steep start to finish with a series of a dozen fixed ropes high up on loose footing. Very manageable, and definitely some exposure. Fun free class 3/4 scramble to the top, with outrageous overviews of Crescent Lake at the summit. A crew of bold Gray Jays at the summit made for some Snow White-esque moments (landing in hand, food or no food). Expect a congo line both up and down for those less enthused or experienced on the rope sections. A post climb leisurely hike to Maraymere Falls was worth the extra effort. Car to car (including a dip in Crescent Lake after) in 2.5hrs or so

On my first trip out west, I dragged my Dad up to the top if this gorgeous peak. It was surprisingly sunny and warm. Thankfully, the rope was solid for the crux section. Who knows if it's still there today.

Storm King in the Days of Covid
Short two hour hike to the top, the last 30 minutes was a moderately tough scramble, there are ropes set up to assist you to the viewpoint, but after that the true summit is class 3-4 scrambling. Rock is slightly stronger than Angeles, and there is more tree coverage. Downtrip was a little over an hour, swam in Lake Crescent!

Not Enough for this Mountain
Hiked the beautiful and steep trail to the west overlook, drenched in sweat on a humid day to end up socked in, above the clouds. My attempts to continue up from there made me progressively more nervous and even wetter from the drenched brush. Turned back on the sketchy rock quite early, as I lost all confidence in my ability to down climb what I was climbing up.
I wish I'd seen the five-hour estimate here first; we allowed only three and didn't make it. It's a gorgeous, steady and steep trail ascent through the forest, interesting change in mixes of trees as you go up from sea level.
