beautiful hike
Hiked from the Glen Alpine Trailhead. Camped at Gilmore Lake and hiked to the summit the next morning. Beautiful view, little hazy and windy with lots of little critters running around.

first climb of the season
A few notes: (1) LOTS of exposed areas; wear good sun protection; (2) despite elevation, it was pretty darn warm; (3) was expecting more scree-type conditions; just lots and lots of rocks in every size. But a great day had by all.

Jacks->Dicks->Tallac talus traverse
Climbed Tallac at the tail end of a solo 20+ mile Jacks->Dicks->Tallac talus traverse from Glen Alpine. It was a gorgeous day in every respect. There was an unabashedly curious marmot on the summit that kept me company.

a good climb up and solid ski down. lots of freshies. the summit brought whiteout conditions making for a bit more of an interesting time skiing the bowl. only three other folks on the entire mountain at the time. a great day.
Enjoyed the hike. I started too late in the day though and got caught in the dark on the way back

Main Trail
Nice fall hike up the trail with lovely fall colors. We didn't see anyone on the way up but as we were descending we ran into a class of 50 sixth graders on a school outing.

Glen Alpine -> Gilmore Lake Trail
Nice.
I think it would have made a whole lot difference (like even better) to go up there around sunset or sunrise instead of mid-day though.
We had lunch somewhere between/behind the rocks. All I remember is the wind, strong wind.

Great Views!
Been to the top a few times and got some great pano shots back in 2003. Climbed it from both sides and going up the face is a nice work out! Lived there for 18 years so I had to climb it as much as possible.

A nice way to escape (reduce) the crowds a bit on my first trip to Tahoe.

descent the Cross
This time I dragged my snowboard up to the top of Mt. Tallac, with 2 of my skier friends who carried their skis with me, how nice of them. I had planned on descending the Sunny Side Bowl, but once on top the conditions allowed us a chance to descend the cross. I will never forget the steepness, and how humbled I felt when I dropped into this section of the mountain.
