Mount Thompson, view south

One quickly runs out of superlatives trying to describe the vistas above the Wapta Icefield. I will be content simply to name a few of the peaks. From left to right: the black triangular mass at far left is St. Nicholas Peak, a popular winter ski destination reached from the ACC's Bow Hut; just above it is Mt. Olive; the broad snow ridge to the right of Olive is Mt. Gordon, between Gordon and Olive lies Vulture col, which gives access to Balfour Pass and the ACC's Balfour hut; the glacier draining out of sight to the right of Gordon is the Yoho Glacier, on its way to Little Yoho Valley--The President and Vice-President are visible in the distance above and left of the Yoho Glacier; the sweeping foreground ridge right of the Yoho is the south end of Mt. Rhondda, and behind it is Mt. Collie, named for J. Norman Collie, who was on the first ascent party of both Mounts Thompson and Gordon. August 8, 2009.
