Re: Your eyes...No, I had not noticed the tomahawk but I know a lot more about this interesting tool now, thank to the link you sent. Being an Iranian and having spent a few years in the villages there, I had seen different variations to this tool. I bet shepherds have been using them for thousands of years.

Re: Your eyes...Thanks a lot Marc – that's a very interesting bit of information. I think you're right, the alphorn also seems to be a few thousand years old. And Europe is just one of the big peninsulas of Asia.
