Met another climber at the start of the route. Fun day. Experienced the route finding as pretty straightforward. The fun in the beginning does make up for the loose stuff at the end!

NE Gully
My wife Penelope and I scrambled up the CENTER of this gully in August 2004. The route is memorable for us, because it was the first time Pen and I scrambled up a 5th class multi-pitch (long) route solo. BTW the descent as described in Croft's guidebook is completely wrong in directions and elevation points.

Right of Center
Met up with an old friend and climbing partner in Mammoth and scrambled up the face, staying generally right of the "normal" route looking for steep slabs, which we found and enjoyed. Good to be back in the High Sierra again!

Fun solo
Climbed a very prominent arete to the right of the gully which splits up and right around the red rock band. Climbed a headwall that was 99% never climbed before- sketchiest moves I have done while soloing. Had a lot of fun in the end. Rock above wasn't bad at all and arete was amazing!
Climbed with Laura Molnar. We brought rock shoes and only used them on the first 5.2 part -- sticky rubber approach shoes were sufficient for the rest. The slabs were probably my favorite part. A geologist's dream climb.
Laura found us a nice use trail down the hanging valley. Brush wasn't bad, but maybe worse if you are wearing shorts.

solo
A fun route, not much class 5 encountered. Upper gully not as bad as advertised, just stay closer to the bigger rocks.

Real Nice
Excellent winter ascent, kept it fun by travelling over mixed terrain to save the snow for our ski and snowboard drop back down the line.

third time
Climbed with Jascha. Lots of waterfalls and silt on the slabs this time. Saw a rubber boa on the trail on the descent.

Don't wander off routeThe rock is good in the gully, but turns to garbage quickly if you wander off route. I found out the hard way.
